Strike on Ukraine-bound gas tanker in Black Sea wounds three
On July 21, 2026, an LPG tanker named Gas Lisbon, flying the Liberian flag and carrying over 3,790 tonnes of propane from Egypt to the Ukrainian port of Reni, was struck approximately 20 nautical miles off the Romanian coast in the Black Sea. The attack caused a major fire and wounded three crew members, who were evacuated by Romanian rescue vessels with burns and multiple wounds. Romanian President Nicusor Dan attributed the strike to Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. Separately, India summoned Russia's top envoy in New Delhi to protest a weekend attack on a cargo ship in Odesa that killed four Indian nationals. The Black Sea remains a key theater of conflict since Russia's 2022 invasion.
