MAI-Image-2.6-Flash joins Pareto frontier for image editing at $19.5 per 1k images
MAI-Image-2.6-Flash has been added to the Pareto frontier for quality versus price in Image Editing, joining the existing MAI-Image-2.6 model. The Flash variant is priced at $19.5 per 1,000 output images on Microsoft Foundry, closely matching the $20 per 1,000 images of its predecessor MAI-Image-2.5-Flash. In Image Editing, this places it on the frontier between Meta's Muse Image ($10 per 1k images) and MAI-Image-2.6, in the most attractive quadrant of the quality-price comparison. For Text to Image, it sits just below the frontier, behind Muse Image. Meanwhile, MAI-Image-2.6, previously benchmarked as MAI-Image-2.6-Preview, now has a public price of $38.9 per 1,000 output images. At that price, it tops the Image Editing frontier as the number one model and ranks second on the Text to Image frontier, behind only OpenAI's GPT Image 2 (high), which costs more than five times as much per image.
Microsoft's MAI-Image-2.6-Flash ranks #3 on AI Image Editing leaderboard
Microsoft has released MAI-Image-2.6-Flash, an optimized version of its flagship MAI-Image-2.6 model, on Microsoft Foundry. The new model immediately secured the #3 position on the Artificial Analysis Image Editing Leaderboard, behind only Microsoft's own MAI-Image-2.6 and OpenAI's GPT Image 2 (high), and narrowly ahead of Google's Nano Banana 2. In Text to Image generation, it ranks #8, within 5 Elo points of MAI-Image-2.5 and ahead of Google's Nano Banana Pro. Compared to its predecessor MAI-Image-2.5-Flash at the same price point, MAI-Image-2.6-Flash shows significant improvement: a 69 Elo point gain in Text to Image (moving from #16 to #8) and a 34 Elo point gain in Image Editing (moving from #12 to #3). The model joins MAI-Image-2.6 on the Pareto frontier for quality versus price, offering both text-to-image generation and image editing capabilities.
