Stellantis to divest Free2move car-sharing arm to Mutares
Stellantis has agreed to sell its entire stake in the Free2move car-sharing division to German private equity firm Mutares. Free2move, founded in 2016, operates short- and long-term free-floating fleets in 14 cities across Europe and the US, making it one of the most geographically diversified car-sharing operators. The divestment aligns with Stellantis' FaSTLAne 2030 strategy, which emphasizes disciplined capital allocation toward regions, brands, and technologies expected to deliver the strongest returns. For Mutares, the acquisition marks entry into a new mobility platform. Mutares plans to overhaul the unit's international fleet management, accelerate the shift to battery-electric vehicles, and enhance customer experience alongside municipal urban mobility needs. The deal is expected to close by year-end, pending regulatory approvals. Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa is steering a turnaround to reverse declining market share in the US and Europe and counter competition from Chinese manufacturers.
