Saab and PGZ Sign Strategic Naval Cooperation Deal to Strengthen Polish-Swedish Defence Ties

Swedish defence giant Saab has signed a strategic collaboration agreement with the Polish state defence group PGZ to enhance cooperation in the naval sector. The deal involves integrating PGZ into Saab’s supply chain, establishing an underwater technology centre in Poland, and exploring joint production projects, including the development of a new heavyweight torpedo. This agreement builds upon previous commitments, such as Poland's selection of Saab to supply three A26 submarines to replace its aging Soviet-era vessel. The partnership aims to broaden collaboration beyond submarines to include the maintenance and repair of surface and underwater vessels, as well as pursuing export opportunities for rescue vessels. Executives from both companies highlighted the deal as a significant step in deepening industrial ties and enhancing security in the Baltic Sea and NATO’s eastern flank. This development reflects the growing defence and economic relationship between Poland and Sweden, both NATO allies, amidst increased regional security concerns following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The cooperation also aligns with Poland's strategy to bolster its domestic defence industry while maintaining strong international partnerships.
