Saab and Embraer Agree on Potential Assembly of 20 Additional Gripen Jets in Brazil
Saab and Embraer have signed a Heads of Agreement (HoA) outlining a framework for the potential production of 20 additional Gripen E/F fighter jets at Embraer's Gavião Peixoto facility in São Paulo, Brazil. Under the deal, Embraer would handle assembly of the extra aircraft, supplementing Saab's existing final assembly line. The agreement follows a recent indication by the Brazilian government of a possible order for 20 more Gripen jets. Saab stated the HoA aims to boost global delivery capacity and provide flexibility to meet evolving customer requirements. Both parties plan to finalize the corresponding agreement in 2026. The deal deepens the decade-long industrial partnership between the Swedish and Brazilian firms, which already includes technology transfer and local production of Gripen E jets for the Brazilian Air Force. Embraer's Gavião Peixoto facility, which recently produced Brazil's first supersonic fighter, will play a central role in the project.
