Russian Drone Damages Protective Shelter at Skovoroda Museum in Kharkiv Oblast

A Russian Molniya UAV struck the Hryhorii Skovoroda Museum in Skovorodynivka, Kharkiv Oblast, on May 12, 2026, damaging the protective shelter covering the historic site. According to the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, eight sections of the shelter's roof were affected; one section sustained a significant hole, while seven others were damaged by debris. Crucially, the load-bearing structures of the shelter and the museum building itself remained intact. Emergency workers and experts are currently documenting the damage and preparing technical reports. The Ministry has notified UNESCO about the incident, and local authorities are planning repair work. This attack marks another instance of damage to the museum, which previously suffered a devastating missile strike in September 2022 that caused a large fire. The museum, dedicated to the 18th-century Ukrainian philosopher Hryhorii Skovoroda, is a significant cultural heritage site. In 2024, Ukrainian authorities identified the Russian commander allegedly responsible for the 2022 destruction. Recent efforts had restored 27 exhibits from the previous attack.
