US Prosecutors Investigate Insurers Linked to LA Dodgers Owner Mark Walter
US federal prosecutors are investigating possible financial irregularities at two insurance companies controlled by billionaire Mark Walter, owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers. According to a Bloomberg report citing unnamed sources, Delaware Life Insurance and Clear Spring Life and Annuity received grand jury subpoenas in February. The probe focuses on whether the insurers failed to disclose that billions of dollars in private credit holdings were tied to other parts of Walter's business empire. The criminal investigation runs parallel to a separate SEC review. Following the subpoenas, internal reviews uncovered reporting errors, with Delaware Life revealing an additional $16 billion in private credit assets linked to affiliated entities. The FBI also executed a search warrant in September, seizing a mobile device. Group 1001, which owns both insurers, said it is cooperating fully and maintains its financial position is sound. Walter's business interests also include stakes in the Los Angeles Lakers and Chelsea FC.
