Porpoise Carcass Removed from Beach on Norderney
On Monday, a one-meter-long porpoise carcass was discovered on the beach in front of the Milchbar on the East Frisian island of Norderney, Germany. Parts of the animal's head were missing, indicating it had been dead for some time. Two police officers initially attempted to pull the carcass back into the North Sea, but waves repeatedly washed it ashore. Norderney's mayor Frank Ulrichs confirmed the carcass was in poor condition and was subsequently transported away for animal carcass disposal. Removal was deemed necessary because the animal was lying in the area of the bathing beaches, posing a public health and safety concern.
