Pittsburgh Startup Demonstrates Electric Vehicle Kit for Special Operations Forces
Super Powers Mobility (SPM), a Pittsburgh-based startup, demonstrated its Energized Vehicle Kit (EVK) to U.S. special operations forces at events in Nevada and Utah. The kit is designed to bolt onto light tactical all-terrain vehicles (LTATVs) like the Polaris MRZR. SPM offers two configurations: an augmented version that adds a 10-kWh battery pack to the existing diesel engine, enabling silent power export of up to 30 kW continuous and 100 kW peak, and a fully electric version that replaces the engine entirely with a 20-kWh pack. The company claims the battery packs offer six times the power density of traditional military generators and support hot-swapping for continuous operation. The technology aims to reduce acoustic and thermal signatures, aligning with U.S. Special Operations Command's push for hybrid-electric and fully electric vehicles to enhance stealth and operational capability.
