Philippine Airlines orders up to 20 Boeing 787 Dreamliners
Philippine Airlines (PAL) has committed to order up to 20 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner jets, marking its first Boeing order since 2007. The agreement, announced at the Farnborough International Airshow, includes a firm order for 15 aircraft and an option for five more, with deliveries starting in 2031. Financial terms were not disclosed. The 787-10, the largest variant in the 787 family, can carry 300-375 passengers and offers 25% less fuel consumption than older aircraft. PAL President Lucio C. Tan III stated the jets will strengthen the airline's medium and long-haul fleet and support sustainability goals. The order is the largest widebody purchase in PAL's history. The airline currently operates 10 Boeing 777s alongside Airbus A350s and A330s. The deal gives Boeing a foothold in a market where Airbus has been dominant. Boeing also announced orders from SMBC and Riyadh Air at the same airshow.
