Outgoing Fidesz Ministers Donate Severance Pay to Ukrainian Children's Home

Gergely Gulyás, leader of the Fidesz parliamentary group, announced that outgoing government members, including himself, Tibor Navracsics, Csaba Lantos, and János Bóka, will donate their statutory severance pay to a children’s home in Nagydobrony, Transcarpathia, Ukraine. This decision was revealed during a press conference addressing the government transition process. Gulyás emphasized the smooth handover of power and highlighted the Fidesz government's achievements, such as economic growth and family support systems, while asserting that they are leaving the country in good order. The move comes amid political tensions regarding severance payments, with Prime Minister Péter Magyar previously stating he would not sign documents authorizing these payments for former officials. In response, the outgoing ministers chose to forgo the funds personally and direct them to charity instead. Prime Minister Magyar confirmed the cabinet's agreement on this charitable donation and noted that state secretaries are expected to clarify their positions on the payments soon. The announcement underscores a gesture of goodwill amidst the political shift in Hungary, aiming to resolve disputes over transitional benefits while supporting humanitarian causes in neighboring Ukraine.
