Nodwin Gaming Founder Calls for 'Neeraj Chopra Moment' to Elevate Indian Esports

Akshat Rathee, cofounder of Nodwin Gaming, stated that India requires a significant global victory in esports, akin to Neeraj Chopra's Olympic gold, to shift public perception and establish credibility in the sector. Speaking at an event in New Delhi, Rathee emphasized that the focus must shift from merely increasing player numbers to improving training systems and skill development. This commentary coincided with Tencent signing a three-year Memorandum of Understanding with the Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) and the Game Developers Association of India (GDAI). Tencent committed an initial investment of over $1.04 million to support local talent and high-quality gaming experiences. Yong-Yi Zhu of Tencent Games highlighted the potential for Indian content to reach global audiences through effective localization. Industry leaders, including GDAI CEO Shruti Verma, stressed the importance of building a structured talent pipeline, creating industry-ready educational courses, and changing societal views on gaming as a viable career path.
