Meta Launches AI 'Incognito Chat' Mode with Enhanced Privacy Features
Meta has initiated the rollout of a new 'Incognito Chat' mode for its AI assistant, available on WhatsApp and the dedicated Meta AI app. According to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, this feature offers a highly private interaction method where conversations are neither stored on Meta's servers nor accessible to company employees. The system leverages WhatsApp's existing 'Private Processing' infrastructure, utilizing end-to-end encryption and a Trusted Execution Environment to ensure that message content remains protected in plaintext form during processing. Consequently, chat histories do not retain these interactions, and all data is deleted immediately after the session concludes. While this enhances privacy for sensitive topics like health or finance, it comes with functional limitations, such as the inability to upload or generate images within this mode.
