Malaysia Will Not Oppose Jho Low's Pardon Bid from Trump, Says Anwar

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that his government will not oppose fugitive businessman Jho Low’s attempt to seek a pardon from US President Donald Trump. Speaking to reporters in Seremban, Anwar characterized Low’s plea as a non-issue for Malaysia, stating that the country would not intervene in the legal process currently underway in the United States. Jho Low, a central figure in the massive 1MDB corruption scandal, has been indicted in the US but remains at large after disappearing approximately a decade ago. Whistleblowers allege that Low, despite having no official government role, orchestrated significant financial decisions within the state investment fund. According to the US Department of Justice, Low is formally seeking a pardon after the completion of his sentence. Although Low has denied any wrongdoing, he continues to evade capture. Anwar emphasized that since Low is still undergoing judicial processes, it is not a matter for the Malaysian government to actively discuss or oppose. This stance highlights Malaysia's decision to distance itself from interfering in the US legal proceedings regarding one of the world's most notorious financial scandals.
