Liverpool in talks with Amit Bhatia-led consortium for £1.35bn minority stake; Jeff Bezos also linked
Fenway Sports Group (FSG) is in preliminary talks with a consortium led by Amit Bhatia, former QPR co-owner and son-in-law of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, to sell a significant minority stake in Liverpool FC. The provisional offer values the club at approximately £4.5bn, with Bhatia's group offering £1.35bn for about 30% ownership. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has been approached about joining the consortium but remains undecided. FSG, which bought Liverpool for £300m in 2010, sees the deal as a way to inject fresh capital for continued competitiveness rather than an exit strategy. The club spent a record £450m on transfers last summer and made only £8m profit in their 2024-25 Premier League title-winning season. Previous minority stake sales include 10% to RedBird Capital in 2021 and 4% to Dynasty Equity in 2023. Talks remain preliminary and are not expected to affect current transfer plans.
