The decline follows the announcement of his son's birth via a surrogate mother in the USA, which sparked accusations of hypocrisy given Spahn's previous opposition to surrogacy in Germany. 69% of respondents consider Spahn untrustworthy, and 68% believe his fatherhood via surrogacy harms the CDU. Spahn resigned as parliamentary group leader on Saturday. Meanwhile, AfD leader Alice Weidel rose to 4th place and FDP leader Wolfgang Kubicki gained two spots to 7th. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) remains the most popular politician, followed by Cem Özdemir (Greens) and Hendrik Wüst (CDU). The survey polled 1,004 people from July 17-20, 2026.
