Iran Seizes Tanker Jin Li in Gulf of Oman Special Operation
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has seized a tanker in the Gulf of Oman during what Iranian media described as a special operation. The vessel, identified by maritime security firm Vanguard Tech as the Barbados-flagged Jin Li (formerly Ocean Koi), was reportedly carrying Iranian oil. Iranian state media accused the tanker of abusing regional conditions to harm national interests and disrupt oil exports. Following the seizure, the vessel was handed over to Iranian judicial authorities. The Jin Li had been previously sanctioned by the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) for its involvement in the shadow fleet transporting Iranian petroleum. AIS tracking data from Pole Star Global indicated the tanker's last known position was in the Gulf of Oman on May 7, 2026.
