Indian national stabbed in U.S. over his religion: reports
On July 13, 2026, Syed Sohailuddin, an Indian national working at Valley City Mall in West Valley City, Utah, was allegedly stabbed 15 times by Peter Michael Larsen. According to Fox 13 News and court records, Larsen asked the victim about his religion before attacking him, and told police he targeted the employee over his religious beliefs. Larsen was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and carrying a prohibited dangerous weapon. Sohailuddin underwent surgery at a hospital, while Larsen was also hospitalized after being punched by bystanders who intervened. The Consulate General of India in San Francisco expressed deep sadness and is providing consular assistance, staying in contact with local authorities and the victim's family.
