Hospital de Amor Launches Construction of Robotic Surgery and Research Center in Barretos
The Hospital de Amor in Barretos, São Paulo, has officially commenced construction on a new center dedicated to robotic surgery and clinical research. The initiative aims to enhance cancer treatment for patients within Brazil's public health system (SUS) by providing high-tech therapies and expanding medical training. The launch ceremony was attended by Brazilian President Lula and Health Minister Alexandre Padilha, highlighting the government's commitment to improving oncology care. The federal government will transfer R$129 million to support the project, which includes the creation of the Brazilian Cybersecurity Health Network. The new facility is expected to increase the area for clinical research tenfold and significantly boost the number of minimally invasive surgeries. This development follows the recent approval of robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy in the SUS. The center, spanning 4,511 square meters with two surgical rooms and an ICU, is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2027. The event also marked President Lula's return to the hospital, where he previously inaugurated a ward named after him.
