Health Workers Launch Boycott Campaign Against Israeli Medical Association on Nakba Anniversary

On the 78th anniversary of the Nakba, international health organizations including Doctors for Gaza, Global Health BDS, and the People’s Health Movement have launched a campaign to boycott the Israeli Medical Association (IMA). The campaign accuses the IMA of severe ethical violations and complicity in the systematic destruction of Palestine's health system, citing breaches of World Medical Association declarations. Organizers argue that health has been weaponized against Palestinians through the targeting of medical staff and infrastructure. The initiative follows precedents set by the South African and British Medical Associations, which have already severed ties with the IMA. The campaign’s first phase targets the upcoming World Medical Association Congress in Rotterdam, October 2026, aiming to suspend the IMA’s membership. Over 500 physicians have signed a petition supporting the boycott, and a launch webinar is scheduled for May 30. The movement responds to calls from Palestinian civil society to isolate institutions involved in what they describe as genocidal acts, highlighting global medical solidarity with Palestinian healthcare workers amidst ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis.
