Guatemalan Couple Found Tied Up and Shot Dead in Guatemala After ICE Deportation
Nixon Giovanni Pérez Paz and his wife, Glendy Marisol González de la Cruz, a Guatemalan couple living in Overland, Missouri, were found shot to death, gagged, and bound in a Guatemalan sugarcane field. Their 14-month-old daughter was found crying next to her mother, suffering from dehydration. The tragedy follows Nixon's deportation by ICE in April 2025, when he and his brother were stopped by agents in an unmarked car while driving to work. Despite having an active asylum case, Glendy chose to self-deport with their three children to reunite with her husband due to financial pressures and fear of detention. The couple was reported missing on July 20 after attempting to register a motorcycle. An ICE spokesperson claimed Nixon had two DUI convictions, but STLPR found no court records to support this. The brother, now caring for the children, blames U.S. immigration policy for the deaths.
