GRP and RPF seize 16.92 kg marijuana at Hyderabad railway station, one arrested
On July 29, 2026, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Hyderabad arrested a 20-year-old inter-state drug courier, Akash Singh from Uttar Pradesh, and seized 16.92 kg of marijuana valued at approximately ₹8.46 lakh. The arrest occurred during a joint checking drive near platform no. 4 at Hyderabad railway station. A second suspect, Manish, escaped. During interrogation, Akash revealed he was hired by a man named Jafar to transport the marijuana from Visakhapatnam to New Delhi for ₹15,000 per trip. He had boarded the Godavari Express after receiving two bags of contraband in Visakhapatnam. Police recovered 14 packets of marijuana and a mobile phone. A case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Three other suspects—Jafar, Miya, and Manish—are absconding, and further investigation is ongoing.
