LA Galaxy Official: Maya Yoshida Receives US Green Card, No Longer Occupies Foreign Player Slot
On July 16, Major League Soccer club LA Galaxy officially announced that Japanese defender Maya Yoshida has obtained U.S. permanent residency (green card), meaning he will no longer occupy an international roster spot. In MLS, players with permanent residency are considered domestic players and do not count against the foreign player limit. The 37-year-old veteran previously played for Southampton, Sampdoria, Schalke 04, and other clubs. He transferred to LA Galaxy in the summer of 2023 and helped the team win the MLS Cup the following year. The news was reported by Yahoo Japan and shared by Hupu Soccer.
