Cheryl Baker and Jay Aston, former members of the 1981 Eurovision-winning group Bucks Fizz, have characterized the UK’s 2026 entrant, Look Mum No Computer, as a polarizing 'marmite' choice. Speaking to the Evening Standard, the duo expressed support for Sam Battle’s radical approach, noting that his German-language track and quirky persona might divide audiences but offer a necessary departure from recent entries. This commentary comes as the UK seeks to recover from three consecutive years of failure, where entrants Remember Monday, Olly Alexander, and Mae Muller received zero points from the public vote. Aston attributed these past failures to poor song quality rather than performer talent. Additionally, Baker addressed the political controversies surrounding this year's contest, including protests against Israel’s participation. She asserted that Eurovision has always been inherently political, recalling security threats from the IRA during their own winning year in 1981. The pair, now performing as The Fizz, made these remarks while promoting a new single celebrating the 45th anniversary of their victory. The 2026 grand final is scheduled to take place in Vienna, Austria.
