Foreign Intelligence Intercepted Solingen Attacker's Confession Video Before Attack

A foreign intelligence service intercepted the confession video of Issa al Hasan, the perpetrator of the 2024 Solingen knife attack, before the attack occurred. The video was later released by the Islamic State. German authorities only received a screenshot from the video after the attack, according to Thomas Kutschaty, chairman of the investigative committee in North Rhine-Westphalia. Interior Minister Herbert Reul testified that while the tip was received too late to prevent the attack, such intelligence has prevented other attacks. The opposition, led by SPD representatives, now questions the official narrative that al Hasan was a lone wolf, citing his connections to Islamists, including one who planned an attack on the 2024 European Football Championship. Reul maintains there is no evidence of accomplices or an attack-related network. The attack on August 23, 2024, killed three people and injured many others at a city festival in Solingen.
