Federal Police Arrest Interpol-Wanted Fugitive in Búzios, Brazil

The Brazilian Federal Police arrested a man wanted by Argentine Justice and listed on an Interpol Red Notice in Búzios, Rio de Janeiro, on the night of May 12, 2026. The suspect had been convicted in Argentina for illegal firearm possession, aggravated bodily harm, and gender-based sexual violence. Although his identity remains undisclosed, authorities confirmed that an arrest warrant had been active since March following his conviction abroad. Prior to this international capture, the individual had also faced domestic violence charges in Brazil but was released. The operation resulted from coordination between Interpol’s National Central Office in Brasília and Argentine authorities, leading to a preventive arrest warrant for extradition issued by Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court (STF). The arrest was executed by Interpol’s International Cooperation Center in Rio de Janeiro. Following standard procedures, the detainee was transferred to the state prison system, where he will remain held pending the finalization of extradition proceedings to Argentina.
