Enpal Shuts Down Entire Hamburg Site, Over 80 Employees to Leave
Berlin-based solar startup Enpal is closing its entire Hamburg location, affecting 83 to 85 employees, according to a report by Die Welt. The workforce was informed during an all-hands meeting on Tuesday morning. The Hamburg site was primarily a sales unit resembling a call center, handling sales of photovoltaic systems and heat pumps. A company spokesperson stated that Enpal is focusing on its core sales locations in Munich, Essen, and Berlin, which are being strengthened. The company says it will support affected employees during the transition. The closure follows a strategic realignment announced in June, aiming for profitable growth through AI and platform expansion. This is the second round of layoffs in 2026; in March, Enpal laid off nearly 100 employees from its customer service department in Berlin. Enpal, valued at 2.3 billion euros, claims to have over 130,000 customers and to be the European market leader for solar systems since its 2017 founding.
