By installing Linux on the Switch and employing open-source firmware called Klipper, the device offloads complex mathematical calculations and G-code processing from the printer's microcontroller. This setup allowed a Prusa MK3S printer to complete a model in eight minutes that typically requires ninety minutes. The article notes that while the Switch proves effective, resulting in higher quality prints with reduced artifacts like ringing, it is not strictly necessary. Cocoanix suggests that for most users, a Raspberry Pi remains a more practical and accessible choice for running Klipper.
