Eight Ukrainian newsrooms defy court ban to publish corruption probe on official's brother
Eight Ukrainian media outlets, including Ukrainska Pravda and Dzerkalo Tyzhnia, jointly published an investigative report that a Kyiv court had temporarily banned. The report, by Slidstvo.info and the Anti-Corruption Action Centre, alleges that Oleksandr Sukhachov, brother of State Bureau of Investigation director Oleksii Sukhachov, acquired 143 apartments and offices in Kharkiv at exceptionally low prices—some for as little as €800 each. The developer Parkovyi-2 LLC obtained a court injunction from Judge Serhii Vovk to block publication, citing irreparable harm. Journalists described the ban as a dangerous precedent and an attack on press freedom. The investigation also notes that police and prosecutors investigated the matter in 2021 but closed the case without charges after it was transferred to the State Bureau of Investigation, now headed by Sukhachov's brother. The media revolt is seen as a significant act of solidarity in Ukraine's fight against corruption.
