Egypt and Kenya Strengthen Strategic Partnership and Nile Water Security Cooperation

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Kenyan President William Ruto met on the sidelines of the Africa-France summit in Nairobi to reinforce bilateral ties and address regional challenges. The leaders affirmed their commitment to safeguarding mutual water security within the Nile Basin, emphasizing cooperation to ensure no harm comes to any state's interests. They pledged to activate a comprehensive strategic partnership, originally declared in January 2025, aimed at enhancing economic integration and leveraging the strategic locations and young populations of both nations. During the discussions, Al-Sisi expressed gratitude for Kenya's hospitality and highlighted the historic strength of Egypt-Kenya relations. Ruto appreciated Egypt's support for development efforts in Kenya and other basin countries. The dialogue also covered the ongoing conflict in Sudan, with Al-Sisi stressing the need for regional and international concerted efforts to restore stability and sovereignty. Both presidents agreed to enhance joint consultation and coordination to promote peace, security, and prosperity in Africa and the Middle East, prioritizing development over armed conflict.
