Kenyan court convicts cult leader Paul Mackenzie of 191 murders
A Kenyan court in Mombasa convicted doomsday cult leader Paul Mackenzie of 191 murders, including 190 children and one adult, for ordering followers of his Good News International Ministries to starve to death in Shakahola forest to "meet Jesus." Twenty-eight other cult leaders were also convicted. The case followed the 2023 discovery of more than 400 bodies in shallow graves. Mackenzie, arrested in 2023, faces separate terrorism and radicalisation charges and is due to be sentenced on 6 November.
