DoorDash Launches In-House Drone Delivery Service, DoorDash Air
DoorDash announced it has received Part 135 air carrier certification from the FAA, enabling it to operate its own commercial drone delivery service called DoorDash Air. The service is expected to begin commercial deliveries in fall 2026. DoorDash is developing the aircraft through its in-house robotics team, DoorDash Labs, which also created its ground-delivery robot Dot. The company will also build routing, safety, maintenance, and merchant-handoff systems. DoorDash already offers drone deliveries through partners including Alphabet's Wing and Flytrex, having completed tens of thousands of deliveries. These partnerships remain active, and DoorDash recently expanded its Wing partnership to metro Atlanta. DoorDash Air will operate on the same delivery network as partners, with the company's Autonomous Delivery Platform choosing among drivers, drones, Dot, and other options based on speed, cost, location, and experience. DoorDash said the service could reduce delays for orders traveling 3 to 5 miles, which currently take nearly 25% longer than shorter trips.
