Dodgers owner Mark Walter's $16B in private-credit deals draws SEC and DOJ probes after whistleblower complaint
American billionaire and sports magnate Mark Walter, owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Lakers, and other sports teams, is facing parallel investigations by the SEC and the U.S. Attorney's Office in Manhattan. The probes focus on billions of dollars in loans extended by insurance companies Delaware Life Insurance Co. and Clear Spring Life and Annuity Co. to companies tied to Walter or his conglomerate TWG Global. The investigation was sparked by an internal whistleblower complaint initially targeting Guggenheim Partners, co-founded by Walter. Regulatory filings revealed that the two insurance companies, which control about $85 billion in funds, upgraded their estimate of affiliated investments from $1 billion to $16 billion, citing 'errors' in identifying related-party investments. Grand jury subpoenas were issued in February 2026.
