Derby County Nears Investment Deal with Saudi Boxing Tycoon Turki Alalshikh
Derby County is close to finalizing a significant investment from Saudi sports promoter and boxing billionaire Turki Alalshikh, which would boost the Championship club's spending capacity. The English Football League has completed its review and determined the deal complies with regulations. Final approval is expected next week from the Independent Football Regulator, with growing confidence the deal will be greenlit. Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority, has been in talks since May and previously owned clubs in Spain and Egypt. Current owner David Clowes, who saved the club from liquidation in 2022, plans to sell up to 80% of shares but remain chairman. Derby finished eighth in the Championship last season and is pushing for a return to the Premier League. The club continues recruitment, close to re-signing striker Sammy Szmodics, regardless of the investment outcome.
