Decoration Retailer Depot Files for Bankruptcy Again
The German decorative retail chain Depot has encountered significant financial distress once more, leading its operating company, GDC Deutschland GmbH, to file for insolvency under self-administration. The application was submitted to the Aschaffenburg district court and confirmed by a court spokeswoman. Consequently, provisional self-administration has been ordered, with Frankfurt-based lawyer Thomas Rittmeister appointed as the provisional administrator. This development marks the second time the retailer has sought such protection, having previously filed for self-administration insolvency in 2024. That earlier restructuring effort resulted in the closure of numerous branches across Germany. Currently, the Depot chain maintains a network of over 150 stores, although the company has not disclosed specific employee numbers. Headquartered in Großostheim, Bavaria, Depot's recurring financial instability highlights ongoing challenges within the retail sector. The news was initially reported by 'Lebensmittelzeitung' before being confirmed by official court sources and distributed via the German Press Agency (dpa). This event underscores the continued volatility facing physical retail businesses in the current economic climate.
