92% of CFOs and Top Finance Staff Feel Pressure to Show ROI from AI: Survey
A survey by Avalara, a tax compliance AI firm, reveals that 92% of CFOs and senior finance executives feel personal pressure to demonstrate a return on investment from artificial intelligence. Only 7% of organizations prioritize AI governance over adoption speed. The survey of 1,505 executives in the U.S., U.K., Australia, and India found that 76% lack sufficient in-house expertise to understand their AI operations, and 44% are only somewhat confident they could explain AI agent actions to auditors. Half of respondents reported only limited measurable ROI from AI agents, and 23% said accountability for AI errors is unclear or falls to no one. The findings highlight a tension between rapid AI adoption and the need for proper controls, governance, and expertise, as global AI spending is forecast to surge 47% to $2.6 trillion in 2026.
