Celtic Close To Signing German Midfielder Mika Baur As Potential Successor To Arne Engels
Celtic are reportedly close to signing 22-year-old German midfielder Mika Baur from SC Paderborn, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The Scottish club has reached an agreement with the player and is now negotiating a fee of around £4 million with Paderborn, as Baur's contract expires next summer. Baur, a Germany youth international, progressed through the academies of Stuttgart and SC Freiburg before joining Paderborn in 2024. After a loan spell at Dynamo Dresden, he had a strong 2025-26 season in the 2. Bundesliga, scoring four goals and providing six assists in 33 appearances, helping Paderborn secure promotion to the Bundesliga via playoffs. Celtic view Baur as a potential successor to Arne Engels, who faces interest from Nottingham Forest. The club may also offload Paulo Bernardo and Reo Hatate, leaving Baur as a key midfield option alongside Callum McGregor and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
