Canadian Startup North Vector Dynamics Unveils CM-70 Lightweight Counter-Drone Missile
North Vector Dynamics, a Calgary-based defense startup, announced the CM-70 counter-UAS interceptor missile on July 27, 2026. Weighing just 3 kilograms (6.6 lb) with a 3.5-kilometer range and 900 km/h speed, the missile is designed to shoot down drones at a fraction of the cost of traditional air defense systems. It uses semi-active laser guidance, making it resistant to GPS jamming and electronic warfare. The Czechoslovak Group invested in the company in May 2026 through its Tech Horizons fund. The CM-70 is positioned as a low-cost solution for defending critical infrastructure and military positions against Group I-III drone threats, including Shahed-class drones used in the Russia-Ukraine war. The company emphasizes the missile as a demonstration of sovereign Canadian defense manufacturing capability.
