Canadian AI Leaders and Minister Evan Solomon Discuss Commercialization at Web Summit Vancouver
During the Web Summit in Vancouver, DIGITAL, Canada’s Global Innovation Cluster for Digital Technology, hosted strategic roundtables aimed at accelerating the commercialization and real-world adoption of Canadian artificial intelligence. The events convened key business leaders, innovators, and government officials, including the Honourable Evan Solomon, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation, and Taleeb Noormohamed, Parliamentary Secretary for AI and Digital Innovation. Discussions centered on overcoming barriers such as procurement challenges, talent shortages, and infrastructure gaps to transform Canada's research strength into tangible economic growth and export success. Minister Solomon emphasized the government's commitment to fostering collaboration that drives global innovation and ensures Canadians benefit from technological advancements. Since 2018, DIGITAL has invested over $240 million, leveraging an additional $370 million from private industry, resulting in over 200 market-ready AI solutions and secured sovereign IP assets. The initiative highlights a national shift towards scaling trusted, Canadian-made AI solutions across critical sectors like health, energy, and defence to enhance productivity and economic resilience.
