Canadian Baker FGF Brands Acquires Metro Production Facility in Montreal Suburb
Canada-based bakery group FGF Brands has agreed to acquire a production facility from Metro, one of Canada's largest grocers, for C$90 million (US$64.2 million). The site, located in Baie-D'Urfé, a Montreal suburb, is part of Metro's Première Moisson Group. Under the deal, Metro will retain ownership of the Première Moisson brand and its retail bakeries in Québec, while FGF will manufacture and distribute Première Moisson products, ensuring continued availability in Québec and Ontario. FGF, described as Canada's largest industrial baker and a fast-growing producer of bakery and snack foods, supplies branded and private-label retailers and foodservice operators. Its brands include Wonder and Country Harvest, acquired from Weston Foods five years ago. Metro stated the transaction aligns with its strategy to focus on core food and pharmaceutical retail and distribution operations, while benefiting from FGF's manufacturing expertise and innovation capabilities.
