Bundesliga Referees Decide Against VAR for Corner Kicks, Adopt Other World Cup Rules
The German Football Association (DFB) Referee GmbH, led by Managing Director Knut Kircher, met with the Bundesliga's Football Commission in Frankfurt on Monday to decide on adopting rule changes from the FIFA World Cup in America. Key decisions include: corner kicks will not be reviewed by VAR to avoid increasing interventions; covering the mouth with a hand or jersey during disputes will result in a maximum yellow card, not a red; and players leaving the field in protest will also not receive a red card. New time-wasting measures were confirmed: goal kicks and throw-ins must be taken within five seconds or possession changes; substituted players must leave within ten seconds or the substitute must wait one minute; and injured players treated on the field must leave for at least one minute, with exceptions for goalkeepers and those fouled. Referees will strictly enforce the captain's rule and punish unsportsmanlike conduct like delaying restarts or disrespecting officials.
