Brooklyn Runner's Life Transformed by Marathon Passion Since 2009 Injury
Clifford Tsao, a longtime Brooklyn resident, shares how running evolved from a medical recommendation into a lifelong passion that profoundly altered his life trajectory. His journey began in 2009 when a doctor advised him to focus on fitness and strength to recover from a back injury. This advice led Tsao to take up running, culminating in the completion of his first New York City Marathon just one year later. Since then, he has completed over 30 marathons, including races in his native China. Beyond personal achievement, Tsao has dedicated himself to community service by volunteering with NYRR Open Run in Brooklyn's Marine Park. He currently serves as a Volunteer Captain, playing a key role in significantly growing the weekly program. As he prepares to participate in the upcoming RBC Brooklyn Half, a race he has joined nearly every year since 2009, Tsao continues to celebrate the sport that revitalized his health and connected him with his local community. His story highlights the transformative power of physical activity and community engagement through sports.
