Brazilian Project Launches in Angola to Support Women Farmers
A Brazilian development initiative, the Integrated Development and Growth Program with Sustainability (PDCIS), has been launched in the Malembo community of Angola. Led by the construction firm Odebrecht Engenharia and coordinated by the Norberto Odebrecht Foundation, the project aims to replicate the success of a similar program in Bahia, Brazil, which has benefited over 700,000 people. The initiative focuses on strengthening family farming, enhancing food security, and empowering women through technical training, institutional support for the local Homem Sofre Cooperative, and improved agricultural productivity. Key partners include the Angolan Agricultural Development Support Fund (FADA) and Embrapa Mandioca e Fruticultura, which facilitates technology transfer. The launch follows more than a year of bilateral exchanges and missions between Brazil and Angola. Officials state that the project aligns with the Angolan government's goals to eradicate poverty and ensure food security by promoting sustainable local agriculture, crop diversification, and market expansion for rural communities.
