Bihar Police Track 1,600 Overstayers in Southeast Asia Linked to Cyber Slavery Rings

Authorities in the Indian state of Bihar are actively tracking approximately 1,600 individuals who have overstayed their visas in various Southeast Asian countries. These individuals are suspected of involvement in organized cyber slavery networks, where they allegedly lure and trap youth from Bihar into forced online fraud operations. According to Inspector General Ranjeet Kumar Mishra of the Bihar Police's Cyber Crime and Security cell, data analysis indicates that a significant portion of cyber fraud originates from countries such as Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos. Victims of these schemes typically have their passports confiscated and are coerced into committing financial crimes under threat of violence. In addition to monitoring the overstayers, police are gathering intelligence on 39 recruitment agents facilitating these illegal activities. The Cyber Crime Cell has issued urgent warnings to young job seekers in the state, advising them to exercise extreme caution and thoroughly verify any overseas job offers or agents to avoid falling victim to these transnational human trafficking and fraud syndicates.
