Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt is expected to submit his resignation to Thailand’s Interior Ministry on May 15, 2026, as he prepares to launch a campaign for a second term. Local media reports indicate that this move will automatically dissolve the current political executive team of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, including deputy governors and advisers. During the interim period before a new governor is elected, the city’s permanent secretary will oversee administrative duties. Chadchart plans to travel to the United States to attend his son’s graduation celebrations following his resignation. He is scheduled to officially register his candidacy and unveil his campaign team, operating under the slogan “Invite you to work, to make the city work,” on May 28, 2026. Meanwhile, city officials are working to finalize the 2027 fiscal budget proposal, valued at 93 billion baht, for submission to the Bangkok Metropolitan Council. Deputy Governor Wisanu Subsompon temporarily replaced Chadchart at a recent briefing but declined to confirm his future role in the administration, noting that the governor had not yet formally announced his candidacy.
