Australia Selects Leidos Gibbs & Cox for AUKUS Dry Dock Design
The Australian government has selected Leidos Gibbs and Cox Australia to design a floating dry dock for the AUKUS nuclear-powered submarine program. The dock will be established in Western Australia to provide contingency maintenance capability ahead of receiving Virginia-class submarines in the early 2030s. This floating dock bridges the gap until permanent graving docks are built at the Henderson Defence Precinct. The project is part of a broader $12 billion investment in Western Australian defense infrastructure, expected to support 10,000 direct jobs over two decades. Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles and Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy emphasized the dock as a critical step for sovereign submarine sustainment and Indo-Pacific security. Leidos Gibbs & Cox has a six-decade history of design support for the Royal Australian Navy.
