Arsenal Midfielder Christian Norgaard Retires from Denmark National Team

Christian Norgaard, the 32-year-old Arsenal midfielder, has announced his retirement from the Denmark national team following the country's failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. In an emotional statement shared on social media, Norgaard cited a desire to spend more time with his family and to create opportunities for younger Danish talents as the primary reasons for his decision. The announcement comes after Denmark lost to Czechia in a penalty shootout during the World Cup play-off final in March, a match in which Norgaard played 61 minutes. Since making his international debut in 2020, Norgaard earned 41 caps and scored two goals, playing a key role in Denmark's Euro 2020 semi-final run. Although he joined Arsenal from Brentford last summer, he has struggled for regular playing time at the club, making only ten starts across all competitions.
