Amazon and Microsoft pivot cloud gaming strategies to target different players
Amazon and Microsoft are shifting their cloud gaming approaches to attract more users. Amazon will integrate its Luna cloud gaming service into Prime Video, making it more accessible to Prime subscribers. Microsoft's Xbox division will test an ad-supported model allowing users to stream games they already own, with a one-hour session limit for Xbox Insider Program participants. Both companies face challenges due to network latency and past struggles in cloud gaming adoption. Microsoft, under new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, is also cutting costs and spinning off studios. The moves aim to lower barriers to entry, with Microsoft citing advertising as a way to reduce costs for players, similar to Netflix's ad-supported tier.
