Amazon's Jeff Bezos pushes Prime Video redesign focused on AI
Jeff Bezos, Amazon's founder and executive chairman, has pushed Prime Video head Mike Hopkins to overhaul the streaming service with a focus on artificial intelligence, according to four sources. The resulting project, internally called Lighthouse, aims to showcase Amazon's AI capabilities to over 200 million Prime Video users. The initiative follows a contentious internal presentation last autumn where Bezos expressed displeasure that previous plans did not sufficiently highlight AI and personalization. Lighthouse includes new features such as AI-driven film and TV recommendations, voice response capabilities, and a redesigned home page with pre-populated viewing suggestions like 'action movies from the 1980s.' Amazon has committed some $200 billion to capital expenditures this year, primarily for AI development, and invested $23 billion in OpenAI and Anthropic. Prime Video is already testing versions of the redesign with a few users, though final plans may change based on feedback or financial concerns. Amazon declined to comment.
