Report Alleges Booking.com Lists Rentals on Seized Palestinian Land in West Bank
A report by US-based advocacy group Eko claims that Booking.com is listing holiday rentals in Israeli settlements built on land allegedly seized from Palestinian families decades ago. The investigation identified 41 listings across 14 settlements in the occupied West Bank, including areas near East Jerusalem and the Dead Sea. One prominent case involves Mohammad al-Sbeih, whose family lost farmland in the early 1980s to the Neve Daniel settlement, where a home is now advertised as a scenic rental. While international law, including a recent ICJ advisory opinion, deems these settlements illegal, Israel disputes this interpretation. Eko accuses the travel platform of profiting from land theft and supporting atrocity crimes. Consequently, a criminal complaint alleging violations of Dutch money laundering laws is under review by prosecutors in the Netherlands, where Booking.com operates. In response, Booking.com defended its role as a neutral travel facilitator, stating it does not dictate customer destinations but monitors developments and applies human rights policies in conflict zones, promising appropriate action.
